City of Mill Valley

MV

In June, 2007 Yahoo! named Mill Valley one of the top 10 green cities in America. Recognizing that being green is not an event but an ongoing process, Mill Valley considers sustainability in virtually every city consideration and action. The City has raised the bar since hiring its Director of Sustainability; increasing the emphasis and scope of its commitment to “green” operations.

County of Marin MCo

Across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, and home to a population of approximately 250,000, Marin is one of nine Bay Area counties. Marin County is home to Marin Clean Energy, a program to dramatically increase the amount of renewable energy consumed in the county and, in conjunction with Sonoma County, SMART, a 70 mile 14 station passenger rail project which will remove an estimated 1.3 million car trips from the highways.

County Sustainability Goals and Objectives

By the end of the 21st century Marin will become a place with dramatically reduced dependence upon fossil fuels, hazardous chemicals, and manufactured substances that accumulate in nature and harm life-sustaining systems.

Marin Sanitary Service Marin Sanitary

Marin Sanitary Service is the community leader in intelligent waste management. We work hard to prevent the need for another landfill, to ensure that hazardous wastes are disposed of properly, and to keep our costs down. Over the past 10 years we have increased our recycling to 74%, surpassing the state mandate and saving the equivalent of two million trees and 900 million gallons of water.

Since Marin Sanitary Service was founded more than 50 years ago its evolution has closely paralleled that of Marin County itself. We have grown philosophically with our customers, and believe in the power of recycling to preserve our natural resources. As a result, a smaller percentage of trash is going to the landfill. Our three divisions work together to provide comprehensive collection, recycling, and education services.
